The project Modernization of Irrigation Systems in Armenia, financed by the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), held a training session for Water User Associations.
The EFSD project to modernize irrigation systems in Armenia includes a comprehensive renewal of infrastructure and the development of institutional capacity among the country’s water organizations. Training is a key component of the initiative.
The program aims to enhance the professional skills of Water User Association staff to ensure the efficient operation of irrigation systems, improve the quality and reliability of water supply, support agricultural development, and boost farmers’ incomes.
The training focused on technical topics such as the preparation and implementation of seasonal work, the operation and maintenance of hydraulic structures and irrigation systems, water management and accounting, and the organization of efficient water use during the irrigation season.
The sessions were conducted by staff from the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), which has extensive experience in training and irrigation sector development in Armenia. This partnership helps ensure the adoption of international standards and best practices, improves the quality of specialist training, and contributes to the sustainable development of the sector.
The Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) is a regional financing arrangement totalling over US $9 billion, established in 2009 by the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan.
